Kathryn Le Febre
Founder/CEO
Kathryn founded CHAMP in 2015 and serves as the CEO. Through her personal experience of raising a child diagnosed with cancer (age 10) who underwent a rigorous radiation and chemotherapy treatment protocol for 3 ½ years, she saw the need for families to form a network of support, and be surrounded by a caring community. Childhood cancer places an enormous stress on the family unit, so having the opportunity to get away for a weekend as a family is essential to strengthen the family bond, be refreshed and restore hope to continue the journey fighting childhood cancer.
Kathryn manages the volunteers and oversees the planning and execution of the annual CHAMP Event. Her favorite part of the event is when the community supports, celebrates and honors children on treatment, in remission and children who gained their wings during the CHAMPION Walk and dove release.
Kathryn also plans and runs along with her husband Kent, the CHAMP family on-treatment retreats. Kathryn is passionate about connecting families with a support system and ensuring they are not travelling this journey alone.
Kathryn values time with family. In her time away from CHAMP she enjoys kayaking, hiking, camping, woodworking.
“I am always amazed at the strength and resilience of children fighting cancer, and am blessed to have the opportunity to enter into the lives of these families – what a privilege!”
Tyler Wilson
Secretary
Born and raised in Chandler Arizona, Tyler’s calling to serve was cultivated at a young age in the music performing arts. Becoming a valued member of The Arizona Academy of the Performing Arts and California’s prestigious The Concord Blue Devils, his role grew from performer, to mentor, to instructor. In his 20’s he found himself volunteering his talent and knowledge of music to both the Tempe and Mesa school districts, along with other non-profit musical organizations in the valley. His experience with these organizations fostered a passion to help others, which led him to pursue a career in healthcare. He attended university with the goal of becoming a physician, graduating summa cum laude from a private school in California for his undergraduate degree. It was through the course of his studies that he came to meet the CEO of CHAMP, Kathryn LeFebre, who recognized his magnetic personality and qualities of leadership were excellent additions for her growing committee.
Tyler joined the CHAMP committee in 2016 and for nearly eight years acted as the organization’s volunteer coordinator for the annual 5k race. Tyler’s career plans began to change during COVID when he had to discontinue pursuit of a biochemistry degree through ASU and focus on work. After a few years working as an EMT within Arizona’s foster care network, Tyler was recruited into the utility sector where he began working on building an engineering company that has quickly grown to more than 30 employees within its first year.
Tyler’s qualities of leadership have continued to grow and with that growth came new opportunities for him to apply his talents within CHAMP. Which is why he is more than happy to have accepted a position as one of CHAMP’s newest board members. He hopes that with his passion for leadership, empathy for those in need, and his ability to communicate effectively, CHAMP can continue to grow to meet the needs of the many children, and their families, as they go through the most difficult time of their lives.
